CBUS Program

Certified Breast (BI-RADS^®) UltraSonographer (CBUS) Program

Purpose

To assist in early diagnosis of breast cancer by improving the accuracy and the consistency of breast ultrasound results by creating reports according to the American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Reporting And Data System (ACR BI-RADS^®), the highest international standard in breast imaging practice.

Prerequisites

Registration with CARDUP or ARDMS for North American applicants
Currently performing breast ultrasound examinations

Program Courses
The CBUS Program includes a number of courses including:

Sonographic anatomy of the breast and its lymphatic drainage
Pathophysiology of breast tumors
ACR BI-RADS^®-US Lexicon
Introduction to Katiba^®CBUS Worksheet
Creating breast ultrasound findings using Katiba^® CBUS worksheet
Quality assurance in breast ultrasound examination
Case presentation and use of the BI-RADS^® Lexicon to describe breast ultrasound findings
Review the program material for Breast Ultrasound Certification Examination (BUCE)

BUCE Examination

To certify as a CBUS, sonographers are required to take BUCE Examination. The Examination include a number of multiple choice questions and several breast ultrasound images which requires the sonographers to describe the findings according to the BI-RADS^® Lexicon. Sonographers have the option to write the exam right after the CBUS Program or they can make an appointment to take the exam on a different day. The passing mark is 70%.

Annual Quality Assurance Examination (AQAE)

Every year a random number of sonographers who are certified as CBUS will be invited to take the Annual Quality Assurance Examinations to confirm the continued use of the BI-RADS^® Lexicon in daily practice. There is no registration fee for AQAE. Sonographers who fail the AQAE, will be required to retake the CBUS program or the CBUS Challenging Examination in order to recertify as a CBUS.

CBUS Challenging Examination

Sonographers who wish not to take the CBUS Program, but would like to be registered as a CBUS may take the CBUS Challenging Examination. Sonographers who pass the CBUS Challenging Examination will be registered as a CBUS similar to those who take the Program.

Free Advanced Breast Ultrasound Seminars for CBUS Sonographers

Sonographers with CBUS credentials will have the opportunity to participate in our advanced breast ultrasound seminars throughout the year and receive CME credits at no extra charges, as long as they register for the course before the deadlines.
